Hydrated aluminum sulfate is a white flaky or powdery substance. It is highly soluble in water, almost insoluble in ethanol, and its solution is acidic. Upon prolonged boiling, insoluble basic salt precipitates may form.
Hydrated aluminum sulfate containing low-valence iron salts often has a light green color; low-valence iron salts are prone to oxidation, which can also cause the surface of hydrated aluminum sulfate to turn yellow.
We provide high-quality iron-free hydrated aluminum sulfate products with a 17% Aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃).
Main Application Fields
Chemical industry and water treatment, including use as a flocculant and water purifying agent; in the paper industry as a sizing agent; and in building materials as an accelerating agent.
For applications such as papermaking, it is recommended to use high-quality white iron-free aluminum sulfate. For municipal water treatment and similar fields, there are limits on the content of heavy metal ions in the product.
Applications
- In the paper industry: Used as a precipitant for rosin glue, wax emulsion, and other sizing agents to enhance the water resistance and anti-permeability of paper. It is also used in the flocculation treatment of papermaking wastewater to reduce COD and suspended solids.
- In the water treatment industry: Hydrated aluminum sulfate is a commonly used inorganic flocculant. It generates aluminum hydroxide colloids through hydrolysis to adsorb suspended solids in water, and is widely used in drinking water, industrial wastewater, and sewage treatment.
- In wastewater treatment: Used as a raw material for deep defluorination agents and phosphorus removal chemicals.
- In the dyeing and printing industry: Used as a mordant and an anti-bleeding agent for printing.
- In the fats and oils industry: Used as a clarifying agent.
- In the petroleum industry: Used as a decolorizing and deodorizing agent.
- In the wood industry: Used as a preservative.
- In firefighting: Often combined with baking soda and foaming agents to make foam-type fire extinguishing agents.
- In the dye industry: Used as a mordant and fixing agent.
- In medicine or cosmetics: Used as an astringent (e.g., antiperspirant).
- In the construction industry: Used as a concrete accelerating agent.
- As a raw material for aluminate: Used in the preparation of alumina ceramics and refractory bricks.
